The national fundraising committee is sponsoring, for the second year in a row, National Batten Disease Awareness Days on June 5,6,7th. We hope that you will join us in promoting public awareness of Batten Disease, and we would like to suggest an easy and low cost way to do so. Some families across the country have fundraisers scheduled for these days and we welcome any fundraising activities that may correspond with this weekend, although awareness is our primary goal. So if fundraising is just not your cup of tea, we have just the thing. First step is to contact your local shopping center, mall, church, pharmacy, whatever or wherever makes the most sense for you and ask them one question: “ Can we pass out reusable grocery bags free of charge to your patrons on June 5, 6 or 7?” We will provide you with these bags and brochures with the new BDSRA logo and a customizable press release that you can send to your local media outlets. Some chapters have recruited family, friends and even fraternity or sorority students , boy scouts, girl scouts or anyone that may want community service hours. Please contact me if you are interested in participating and we can make arrangements to get materials out to you and help you plan your activities for the day. chawk328@ctc.net or 704-756-0521 [/img]

We gave out the bags at our Race for a Miracle yesterday and they were a big hit....Great quality and very roomy bags!! I think we gave out 500 or so, but I'm not sure. Don't hesitate to use them at your event.

Thank you to everyone who used the grocery bags or are planning to use them in the future. The feedback I have received from those whom I have talked to has been overwhelmingly positive. Let's keep up the momentum!!!! Please send me an email at chawk328@ctc.net if you have a story to share about these bags. I am giving the Board of Directors an update on Sunday evening!!!!!
By the way, the NY/NJ chapter came up with this idea so pat them on the back the next time you see them!!!!!!

Can we get more bags.
Another thing: I have seen a TON of products (t-shirts, bank checks, coffe mugs, magnets, pens, socks, umbrellas etc) with the slogan FIGHT LIKE A GIRL for breast cancer. How hard is that to get for Batten Disease?
Thanks

BDSRA could or anyone really, could go to cafepress.com and set up "shop" with the BDSRA logo and slogan. The link could be posted on the website and people could go there and place the orders. There is a base price for each item and whoever sets up the shop decides how much of a mark-up to make. Cafe press makes each item to order so we don't have to order a 1000 t-shirts and sell them. They do the work for us, we just have to create the shop and get the word out.
