Message: Hello everyone, I am posting tonight to see if any of you have experienced any of the recent conditions that my son has had. He has a variant to Infantile and is 12 years old. He was diagnosed a little over a year ago. Wednesday morning he became very ill.. Throwing up every 30 minutes and appearing to be in extreme pain. I called the Dr. and was told that there was an very painful stomach flu going around. He didn't have a temperature so I thought OK, it will be better by morning... Boy was I wrong I was up with him all night and it was NOT better by morning, so I rushed him to his dr. and then was sent directly to Seattle Children's Hospital after many tests and 6 hours in ER he was diagnosed with pacreatitis. His enzyme levels were at 5000, normal is below 100. He was in extreme pain. They narrowed down the cause of his pacreatitis to the taking of depakote. I am now told it is an extremely rare side affect of depakote. By Friday his levels were down to 2500 and Saturday they were at 750. But on Friday he started to develop a fever. So now another red lights goes on, oh no fever means infections where is it?? what is it?? After talking to his wonderful new Dr. we decided to do a chest x-ray even though all his breathing was fine and his lungs sounded OK.. we found a empyema in his lung. He is still in pain now has 2 conditions to fight not just one. He of course was started on 2 different antibiotics but as of today (sunday) it has increased in size. Please send happy thoughts are way as we fight these.
