Message: Hi Everyone,
It has been coming more and more difficult to bathe Carl. I can get him into the bathtub, but he struggles trying to sit down and then we struggle again getting out of the tub. My question is are there any adaptive aids that I can use to help us out?? Thank you

Message: Robin, there are plenty of bath aids. If you have a medical supply company near you, you can start there. Check with your doctor and even the phyical therapist for your child could help with this.
We have a chair that sits in the tub and is a mesh for the seating and white PVC tubing for the frame.
By going though your doctor or PT insurance sometimes will pay for these things. Or you can buy direct off the inter-net by going out there and typing in maybe "bathing aids for the disabled" and all kinds of websites come up. Hope this has helped.

It sounds to me like what you need is help getting him in and out of the tub rather than bathing aids per se. God's gift to me was our Barrier Free Lift. If you can fanagle a way to get one it will make your and his lives so much easier. It is a ceiling mounted lift that uses a mesh sling that goes right in the water. Ours was mounted so the the lift went from right over the boys beds into the hall and into the bathroom. You can undress him in the bed, put him into the sling and wing him right into the bathroom. He can use the bathroom first and then go into the bath. We have a jetted tub and our boys used to love their "spa" Saturdays where they got a long "bubble" bath and then a massage etc And best of all, a 5'2", 120lb woman can bathe 2 160 lb men without strain of even getting wet. It's also great for getting them out of the wheelchair and into the bed etc. Our boys are both gone. We still have the lift and would be willing to sell it if you're interested.

I will look into the Barrier Free Lift. Currently he's not bed or wheelchair ridden, but I'm sure that's in our future. Thanks again!

Message: When it got hard for Nick to get into the tub, we started doing showers. It's easier and sometimes we use a chair for him to set in. I do wish that he could soak in a tub too, but I can't imagine, he'd be a nervous wreck by the time he got into the tub. He just gets so nervous so easy.
I hope you get it figured out!!
