My son is 4 years old with LINCL. I bathe him in our roman tub and he gets pretty scared when I stand him up or lay him back a little or even get him out of his sitting position in the tub. I always end up all full of soap myself trying to hold him up. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to make this an easier task?

I would suggest looking into a bath chair. The Rifton Blue Wave bath chair is one that I really like and recommend: www.rifton.com/products/hygiene/bathchairs/index.htmlThey also come with velcro straps so you can secure your child to the bath seat without fear of them falling. The tub stand is a great add-on feature that makes bathing easier on the parent (especially their back). If you have questions, feel free to email me at kirka@bdsra.org.

I also have a bath chair available through the Equipment Exchange. It's not a rifton but it's still very good and has adjustable legs to it. Email me at kirka@bdsra.org and I'm happy to send you a picture. We can ship it to you free of charge.

Just had a meeting with our DME guy. Our Rifton bath chair has been ordered and we are just waiting for it to come in. I cannot wait. It should make bath time a ton easier and more comfortable for all involved. I also picked out DD's wheelchair today finally....huge load off of my mind. She's been needing it for a while. It has just taken some time to explore our options and all of that.

I always do stuff to distract Austin. He likes baths but can be hard to handle cause he wants to try and be like a fish. He always tries to lay down and he is getting to big to fight with. So I put some boats in the bath just little toys to distract him and I do this little silly thing with him. While I scrub him and wash him I ask him if he is clean. he always laughs at me then I ask are you sweaky clean yet. Then I do this funny little sweaky sweaky sound in a high pitch voice and tell him wel you are sweaking you must be squicky clean. He just giggles up a storm and then when it is time to get out I tell him. It is always good to let them know what you are doing before you do it. Just so it isn't scarry. Then we get out and get dry we use to tell him to do the air plane so he could get dry but now he can't hold his arms up so we just sing a song while we get dry and sometimes he dances in place and sings. We just have fun with it. Good luck hope this helps
