Thanks for the reply, do you mind if I ask why he was put on it. My daughter has severe anxiety she is 17 and a half and has had two boughts with severe insomnia which led to hallucinations. She presently takes xanax 4 pills per day, two during and two to go to sleep. It was recomended that the Zoloft would be a good mix and eventually wene her off the xanax. Just curious if you would share.

Jo ann, Nick 12 (jncl)was put on zoloft because they thought it would help with depression and help with his moods. He also takes abilify to help keep him not so angry. it has helped. He takes clonidine at night to help with sleep...Zoloft and xanax do work together. Zoloft lifts and stables the mood and xanax takes that edge off. zoloft wont help her sleep you will still need something else..Try asking the Dr for something geared more for sleep at night...and keep xanax for the day or for when she gets anxious.

Don't have experience with the kids on zoloft. Both Eric and McKenna are on clonidine for anxiety and hyperness. McKenna takes 1/2 a dose in the early afternoon, full dose in the morning, the other 1/2 dose at night (along with 2 benadryl for additional sleep aid). if she doesn't take that 1/2 dose in the afternoon as has been the case this week due to camp, then she is very very hyper and aggressive when she gets home. She also takes prozac (3 ml of liquid). Eric is 13 and takes his full dose of clonidine in the morning and full dose at night before bed. No antidepressants.

My son is on prozac for anxiety & depression and it has been noticably affective. We can tell if we forgot to give it to him or even if it's a few hours late. It has helped him to relax. I believe this in the morning plus taking 1mg of Melatonin at bedtime has helped him get some much needed sleep.

hello! h ave 3 adult children with Batten--i never thought to put my oldest--a son on zoloft but now thinking back wish i had--the girls i put on zoloft when they were young--i didn't have the problems with them as i did the oldest who wasn't on zoloft--i think he was having anxiety attacks but didn't know at the time--it was so hard to get any meds in him so i just didn't want to add more--he spit most of them out or i would find them in his bed--hard telling how many times he went without! Thank you all for sharing. I am so frightened that something worse will happen to her. I am petrified, not frightened. I still have not decided, and the Dr. will do what I want. So many questions, am I doing the right thing, or is giving her the zoloft the right thing??!! The xanax is definetly working for the anxiety, during the day, but there is a noticeable difference right before the next dose. Then I feel like sometimes she is overwhelmingly sad about her loss of relationship with her Dad, so I feel its normal to feel the loss, but maybe if she had the Zoloft it wouldnt be so bad, but then I worry that she will lose her personality if she takes the Zoloft. I am sooooo torn.

So we started Jenna on Zoloft, since then its been about 8 days, they started her on 1 ml of 20mg liquid once per day, that brought on shakiness, loose stools, staring, no personality, loss of appetite and weight. So the dr reduced it to .5 ml which is 10 mg per day after two days, we have no appetite, more tears, and thoughts of her fears, her father. Oh and the dr. increased her xanax from 4 pills per day, to 2 .25mg pills every four hours, that I stopped last week because after two days of that she was completely sedated. Any suggestions or shall I just keep up withthe zoloft and hope for the best. Oh, and swallowing is really bad, so bad I am going to schedule a swallowing evaluation. Anybody, any input??

Isaiah was put on atarax 2 months ago and finally at the dose that helps him with anxiety 25mg 4x day. Then she added trazodone last month for sleep and depression. Trazodone is a old mild antidepressant. But it works wonders for sleep and his mood is much better not perfect but better. For some reason I can not get a doctor to order zoloft, prozac ect for him.
